Dr. Mehta says the best part of being a dentist is that he not only gets to help his dental patients restore their oral health and achieve their ideal smiles, but by extension, he can also improve their confidence and overall quality of life. Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?
Dr. Mehta was drawn to medicine from an early age. He was fascinated by heart and brain surgeons throughout his childhood and teenage years. But, when he learned that there was an entire field dedicated to helping people get out of pain and enjoy beautiful smiles, he knew that dentistry was right for him. Also, he says that he has undergone pretty much every dental procedure you can imagine, so as a frequent patient, he likes to bring this perspective to the profession so he can offer plenty of empathy to everyone who visits him.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Mehta obtained his first dental degree in his native India at the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. After moving to the U.S., he earned an MBA in Healthcare from Florida International University. He briefly worked as an assistant dental office manager to learn more about the business side of dentistry before getting his DMD degree from the Ivy League institution, the University of Pennsylvania.
Since graduating, he has thoroughly dedicated himself to advancing his skills through continuing education. To date, he has completed the Aesthetic Continuum for Smile Designing and Cosmetic Dentistry as well as courses focused on dental implants, Invisalign, laser therapy, and oral conscious sedation. He is also trained through Wave One Gold Endodontic to offer one-visit root canal treatment. Dr. Mehta is currently an active member of the Academy of General Dentistry.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Mehta and his wife, Dr. Uppal (a fellow dentist in South Tulsa), met while in dental school at UPENN, and today, they are the proud parents of two boys, Aarav and Sid. Most of his time away from the dental office is dedicated to them, and his weekends are usually taken up by his kids' activities, including various sports, concerts, and music lessons. Dr. Mehta is a big music lover himself, and he even plays the congas! The family loves to travel together, whether they are visiting a new destination to try unique cuisine or seeing family in Michigan or Mumbai.
